About our resources
How our guides are written, who they are for, and how to use them well.
Who these guides are for
Our resources are written for the people who keep community organizations running: nonprofit staff and volunteers, board members and officers, chambers of commerce, CVBs and destination organizations, festival boards and community foundations.
Who publishes them
Docket Den publishes the Resource Center as an organization. Articles are credited to Docket Den rather than to individual authors.
What they are meant to do
Each guide aims to give practical, plain-language information you can put to work: checklists, templates, examples and straight answers to common questions about boards, meetings, records, operations and events.
How guides are prepared
Articles may be developed with AI assistance. They are intended to receive human editorial oversight before they are published, and we hold back articles that our own notes say need further review.
Sources and references
Where a guide relies on outside information, we list sources and references so you can read the original material yourself.
Legal, tax and financial topics
Information about legal, tax, accounting or financial matters is general and educational. Rules vary by state, by organization type and by your own bylaws. It does not replace advice from an attorney, accountant or other qualified professional who knows your situation.
Dates
The dates shown on each article come from our publishing records: when it was published and when it was last updated. We do not mark an article as professionally reviewed unless that review actually happened.
